Libraries donations policy

Explanation of the H&F Library Service donations policy.

We appreciate the generosity of our readers who wish to donate books to the H&F library service. We will only accept donations if:

  • the quantities are manageable for staff to service and add to the catalogue
  • there is the appropriate level of space for the items to be shelved
  • library site staff agree that the stock is appropriate and desirable.

And the books are:

  • in excellent condition
  • of local interest that fall within the scope of the H&F Library Service local studies collections
  • fiction with a local theme or setting
  • regarding subjects relating to London and to the H&F Library Service in particular
  • produced by reputable authors and publishers.

We will not accept any donations which are:

  • CDs, DVDs, VHS, video games, etc
  • books which do not have an ISBN number
  • book-sets and parts of sets that were originally sold as single items
  • oversized books
  • novelty books that use batteries or that are labelled ‘unsuitable for children under three’, etc
  • grubby or damaged items
  • items which contain out of date information
  • foreign language titles where the publisher cannot be verified as being reputable, or for languages H&F Libraries do not usually stock.

We reserve the right to dispose of, or offer for sale, any materials that we do not wish to add to our library stock.
