Getting ready to apply for a supported internship

Step 1: Create your vocational profile

A vocational profile is a document that helps you:

  • understand your skills and interests
  • think about what kind of job you want
  • show your skills and talents
  • plan your next steps.

You can complete it with a support worker or someone who knows you well.

Step 2: Build the skills you need

Skills are things you're good at that help you do a job well.

General employability skills include:

  • working with other people
  • arriving on time
  • dressing for the workplace
  • teamwork and communication

You can build these skills by joining training programmes or courses.

Who can support you to get ready to apply?

  • your school, college or sixth form staff (careers advisor, SENCO, form tutor)
  • your EHC coordinator, you can email them directly or you can ask the SEND service to put you in touch, send@lbhf.gov.uk
  • your transition social worker, 020 8753 2080, youngpeopleintransition@lbhf.gov.uk
