Motorcycles and e-scooters banned from H&F river path

Pedal bikes and electrically assisted pedal bikes will continue to be allowed along the path to reflect resident feedback.

H&F’s Law Enforcement Team has been speaking with residents about the new riverpath restrictions for motorised transport

Hammersmith & Fulham Council is working with residents to tackle anti-social behaviour and improve safety on the Thames Path.

New rules now restrict certain motorised vehicles from using the riverside footway, including motorcycles and e-scooters, as well as segways, quad bikes and hoverboards.

Pedal bikes and electrically assisted pedal bikes will continue to be allowed along the path to reflect resident feedback.

The order covers the north side of the Thames between Miller’s Court in Hammersmith to Chelsea Harbour in Sands End, Fulham, which runs past our green spaces and riverside pubs.

“The new regulations will help prevent inconsiderate behaviours and prioritise pedestrian safety along this beautiful riverside pathway,” said Cllr Rebecca Harvey, Cabinet Member for Community Safety & Social Inclusion.

The new rules are set to improve safety along the shared path.

Welcomed scheme

Backed by nearly 70 per cent of respondents, the Public Spaces Protection Order has been introduced following a public consultation earlier this year.

E-powered mobility aids that support Disabled People are exempt from the rules, as are parents and caregivers who use cargo bikes as means to transport their children.

“I really welcome this initiative,” said one local resident to our consultation. “Walking along the path has become really stressful and unenjoyable with a lot of very inconsiderate and dangerous riding of bikes and e-scooters.”

The new restrictions apply to motorised vehicles including e-scooters, quad bikes and segways.

Hammersmith to Fulham

H&F is creating a dense network of protected cycle lanes to make it easy and safe for cyclists to get around the borough, no matter their skill level or experience.

It includes the Safer Cycle Pathway in Hammersmith, a protected cycle lane along Uxbridge Road in Shepherds Bush and Cycleway 34 (C34), which connects the quiet back streets near the Thames with Fulham town centre.

Removed from the hustle and bustle of Fulham Palace Road and the much slower, narrow and often-crowded Thames Path, the C34 route provides a fast track for e-cyclists and speedy scooter riders.

It currently runs underneath the Hammersmith flyover through to:

  • Queen Caroline Street
  • Crisp Road
  • Chancellor’s Road
  • Distillery Road along Fran Banfield Park
  • Manbre Road
  • Rannoch Road
  • Crabtree Lane
  • Holyport Road
  • Lysia Street
  • the footpath between Queen’s Manor Primary School and Rowberry Mead Children’s playground
  • and, eventually, along Stevenage Road to Bishops Park.
