Westcroft Square is the latest green space in Hammersmith & Fulham to receive the prestigious Keep Britain Tidy Green Flag award.

It means that H&F now has 20 parks and green spaces with the award – a new record for the borough.

Cllr Sharon Holder, H&F Cabinet Member for the Public Realm, says: “The new award for Westcroft Square means that almost half of the parks and green spaces in H&F have Green Flag status.

“It reflects our commitment to improve and maintain local parks and green spaces as we aim to make H&F the greenest borough in Britain.”

Check out Westcroft Square

Westcroft Square is tucked away just north of King Street in Hammersmith, close to Goldhawk Road.

Built around 1878, Westcroft Square is a Victorian creation and is within a Conservation area. The green space’s canopy includes trees over 50 years old. There are also bird boxes and spring bulbs.

The Hammersmith green space received a mini-makeover in 2020. The pavement was replaced with an environmentally kinder permeable gravel path used in the Royal parks. This sustainable improvement is helping tackle the climate and ecological emergency in H&F.

Westcroft Square is adored by residents, such as Bridget, a member of the Westcroft Square Residents’ Association who says:

“It’s great news that our garden has achieved Green Flag status. It’s such a treasure, to enjoy the plants and trees throughout the seasons - to meet with neighbours, the resident cats, and listen to the birds sing. It promotes a healthy community.”

Growing H&F parks’ trophy shelf

H&F’s 20 Green Flags prove our parks and green spaces continue to uphold the highest possible standard. The award recognises and rewards well managed parks and green spaces, setting the benchmark standard for the management of recreational outdoor spaces across the UK and around the world.
