Hammersmith & Fulham Council continues to expand its network of electric vehicle charging points with the addition of two new rapid-chargers.
The new units, in Lillie Road, Fulham and Rowan Road, Hammersmith, give the borough a total of seven rapid-charging points, as the council stays on track to smash its target of having 250 charging points live by the end of 2020.
The expansion is part of Hammersmith & Fulham Council’s plan to make it as easy as possible for residents to make the switch to emissions-free vehicles.
“We’ve set a target for the borough to be net carbon zero by 2030 as we rise to the challenge of the climate and ecological emergency,” said Cllr Wesley Harcourt, H&F Cabinet Member for Environment.
“Vehicle emissions contribute the main proportion of carbon emissions and airborne pollutants in H&F, so we need to do all we can to help people change to electric vehicles and that means making charging as easy as possible.”
Boosting our network
H&F Council has already installed rapid-charging points, with three in Scrubs Lane, White City, one in Talgarth Road, Hammersmith and another at the A40 Westway.
The numbers will be further bolstered by a ‘mini-hub’ of three rapid-charging points in Sussex Place, Hammersmith.
Rapid-charging points reduce the time needed to charge vehicles, typically giving a full charge up to ten times faster than a normal charging point.
A further 94 new lamppost column charging points are being installed, more than doubling the existing network of 81 lamppost chargers.
Ten new fast-charging units – which recharge quicker than a normal charging point, but not as fast as a rapid-charging points – are also scheduled to go live in the next few weeks.
These additions supplement the original network of 120 on-street charging points.
Earlier this month, the council also launched a new car club in partnership with Zipcar, with more than a quarter of the fleet electric vehicles.
