Residents are being asked for their views on whether we’re doing enough to improve air quality in Hammersmith & Fulham.
H&F Council has updated its draft Air Quality Action Plan, which lists all the things we’re doing, and are planning to do, to improve air quality and help residents’ health and wellbeing. Now we’d like your opinions.
Air pollution in is linked to approximately 10,000 deaths per year and London had the highest levels of air pollution in the UK.
We’d like to know if you think our priorities for tackling air pollution are correct and anything more you think we should or could be doing.
“Improving air quality is a key priority for us and we want to make sure we’re doing all we can to keep residents safer from harmful emissions,” said Cllr Wesley Harcourt, H&F Cabinet Member for Environment, Transport and Residents’ Services.
“Please read our draft plan and spare a few minutes to give us your feedback so we know we’re doing what residents would like us to do.”
What have we done? What’s next?
H&F Council set up the resident-led Air Quality Commission, whose report recommended actions for the council, GLA and government to tackle air pollution.
We continue to expand our network of electric vehicle charging points with 150 planned by the end of the year.
We’ve also held six anti-vehicle idling action days across the borough, asking static motorists to switch off their engines.
We are also looking at how we can consolidate deliveries to council offices to reduce unnecessary journeys and will soon consult on a ‘Neighbourhood of the Future’ – a completely exhaust emissions-free zone in Hammersmith.
The consultation runs until 31 October 2017.
