Donations and gifts are still needed to help the pensioners’ traditional Christmas lunch in the Town Hall go with a swing.

With 300 of the borough’s senior citizens enjoying a roast turkey meal with all the trimmings, organisers have renewed their call for gift donations and cash support.

Hammersmith & Fulham is the only local authority in the country to run such an event on Christmas Day.

Last year more than 80 volunteers gathered at Hammersmith Town Hall for a party which has been a fixture on the calendar for 25 years.

The Christmas lunch is aimed at older residents who would otherwise be spending the day alone.

An appeal has been renewed for donations to help cover the cost of food and wine, and gifts for the party attenders.

Particularly welcome are donations of toiletries, books, biscuits and chocolates.

Anyone able to make donations or supply gifts, is asked to email events@lbhf.gov.uk or call 020 8753 2135.

“Unfortunately not all of us are lucky enough to have friends and family around us at this time of year,” said Cllr Sue Fennimore, H&F Cabinet Member for Social Inclusion.

“That is why we hold this Christmas Day lunch party, to make sure no one is left alone and we are proud to be the only council in the country to do this for our residents.

“We rely heavily on the support of residents and businesses who donate items to ensure this event is special for our visitors.

“We couldn’t do it without you. I would like to thank everyone for their continued support."

The Mayor of Hammersmith & Fulham, Cllr Mercy Umeh, will visit the party, sponsored this year by John Parnham Funfairs.
