Christmas Day lunch 2015 at Hammersmith Town Hall

If you are over 60, a resident in Hammersmith & Fulham and will be spending Christmas Day alone, then why not come and celebrate the day surrounded by other residents instead?

Up to 300 of the borough's older residents will come together to celebrate Christmas Day at Hammersmith Town Hall this year.

H&F Council's Christmas Day lunch has been running for more than 25 years, offering residents over 60, who may otherwise be alone over the festive period the chance to come together for a roast turkey dinner with all the trimmings and some good company.

“Unfortunately not all of us are lucky enough to have friends and family around us at this time of year,” said Cllr Sue Fennimore, H&F Cabinet Member for Social Inclusion.

“That is why we hold this Christmas Day lunch party, to make sure no one is left alone and we are proud to be the only council in the country to do this for our residents.

“However we can’t do it alone. We rely heavily on the support of residents and businesses who donate items or volunteer their time to ensure this event goes ahead and is special for our visitors.

“We couldn’t do it without you. I would like to thank everyone for their continued support."

More than 80 volunteers contributed at last year’s event; from serving Christmas lunch to making sure the guests have everything they need and even joining in with a dance.

We are still looking for businesses to sponsor this year’s event with donations, food and gifts and volunteers to spare their time.

All volunteer help is invaluable and without their enthusiasm and support, the Christmas Day party would not be possible.
