The Shepherds Bush school celebrated its week of outdoor competition last month with a parade around the school grounds and across to Wendell Park in true Rio carnival style ahead of this summer’s Games.

“It was really great to see so many enthusiastic pupils – and teachers!” said Francesca Tomassi, sports coordinator for the school. “The pupils were inspired by the upcoming Olympics in Brazil and re-created the mascots. And the singing in the procession down to the park was amazing in the sunshine.”

During the week, Year 3 pupils from Jet Class delivered a school assembly all about their experiences. This ranged from fitness sessions, dancercise classes, a mini-marathon and other games they played.

“They also acted out a story which had an important message about sportsmanship,” said deputy headteacher Rosie Peters. “Yes winning is great, but if you enjoy yourself and try your hardest then that is all anyone can ask of you.”

The week was capped off with a dramatic tug-of-war competition between teachers and pupils. “They really got into it,” Francesca added with a smile.
