Lucy White
Lucy is the Education and Schools Lead for Upstream London and responsible for forging robust links with schools to broker the Pathway Bonds activities. She is particularly inspired by events that showcase the incredible businesses in H&F and by helping to build a pipeline of talent for the future.
Lucy has a long association with our borough, having previously worked for the Education Business Partnership and for a recruitment company that placed teachers into local schools.
Kennes Mukulayenge
Like most first-generation kids growing up in inner city London, Kennes parents told her she had three career choices: doctor, lawyer, or engineer.
Naturally, her very first work experience was two weeks at Moorfields Eye Hospital when she was 16 - where she quickly discovered that while she was good at filing patient records, she was less suited to performing actual surgery.
Since then, Kennes has swapped scalpels for strategy and now focuses on building partnerships, driving inclusive growth, and (thankfully for everyone) leaving the medical work to the professionals.
Oli Rahman
Oli is the Assistant Director for Employment and Skills at LBHF. His first taste of the working world came via a school-assigned placement at a frozen food supermarket, an experience that taught him the art of customer service and the survival skills required for navigating sub-zero freezer aisles.
While grateful for the experience (and the thermal socks), Oli couldn't help but notice the limited options available to young people hoping to explore careers aligned with their aspirations.
That early insight sparked a lifelong commitment to ensure young people have access to the support, guidance, and pathways they need to reach their full potential...without having to freeze for it.
Prema Gurunathan
Prema heads Nexus, the H&F and Imperial College London partnership, and is also Assistant Director for Strategic Partnerships within H&F.
She remains in contact with the people she did work experience for at 18, just before going to university and they have been a source of good advice and even fun!
Andy Murray and Miranda Mathews (STEM3 consultants)
If you're a STEM3-based organisation, Andy and Miranda are heading your way.
They are two world-leading neuroscientists who now run Antelope Health. Combined, they have published around 40 peer-reviewed scientific articles, book chapters, magazine articles and books, receiving over 3,000 citations.
They have:
- filed 8 patent applications
- raised around $12 million in equity financing from investors
- raised nearly £2 million in grant funding.
Prior to Antelope, Andy and Miranda built Sania Therapeutics, a Hammersmith-based biotech company now entering the clinical development phase.
Neither Andy nor Miranda grew up with scientific or business connections, but both were able to access work experience and educational opportunities that led to STEM3 careers. Those early opportunities made it possible for them to build their careers.
They want to demystify STEM3 careers for students and also drawing on their entrepreneurial experience in the life sciences to make it as seamless as possible for industry partners to support young people.
