School crossing patrols

Look out for children dashing into the road near schools. Our crossing patrols are there to help children cross safely.

We run school crossing patrols, the ‘lollipop person’, at:

  • Paddenswick Road – opposite John Betts Primary School
  • Munster Road – at the junction with New King's Road
  • Dalling Road – at the junction with Glenthorne Road
  • Lillie Road – at the junction with Moylan Road.

They are either directly outside schools or where children cross the road on their way to and from school. They can help anyone cross the road, not just school children.

Look out for pedestrians!

If you’re a driver or a cyclist, please remember that the law allows our school crossing patrols to stop traffic. Children may be over-eager to cross and could dash out in front of you. Our patrols run when children are arriving in the morning and leaving in the afternoon. That’s generally from 8.15 am to 9.15 am and from 3pm to 4pm.

If you don’t stop you could face a £1,000 fine, penalty points and a driving ban. Cyclists can also be fined £1,000.
