Donating a tree is a wonderful opportunity to create a long lasting tribute to a person or special occasion, such as a wedding or birth. Your donation will contribute to the development of the Hammersmith & Fulham Council’s park treescape, helping to create a green environment for yourself, your family and future generations to enjoy.
Location and type of tree
The majority of the borough’s parks and open spaces are available as potential venues for tree donations. However, it is important that the trees fit into the long-term landscaping of the site. For this reason, we have selected a range of suitable trees for each available site (please see lists below). Once you have completed your form, the parks officer responsible for the site will make contact with you to discuss the exact location of your tree planting.
When to plant
The main season for tree planting is from November to March. At this time of year trees are in a dormant state and are able to be planted with minimum of distress. This will allow good establishment of your tree. Enquiries made outside of the main planting season will be added to a list. A parks officer will make contact in September/October, when preparations for the year’s tree planting begins.
Aftercare and maintenance
The planting cost covers the watering of your tree for two years. Trees will be staked at the time of planting. If your tree fails during this two-year period, we will cover the cost of a replacement. Regrettably, we are not able to cover the cost of trees which have been vandalised, stolen or affected by pests and/or diseases. If you wish to have a tree guard or grill fitted at the time of planting, we can arrange this at an extra cost.
Pricing
Unfortunately, we are not able to supply a cost for your tree as prices vary depending on the tree species and market price; however, a light standard tree (a tree between 2m – 3m in height) will cost between £100 and £250.
Planting, staking and two-year maintenance of the tree will be an additional £170.00.
All prices are subject to a 10% administration fee and a full cost with breakdown will be supplied at the time of your enquiry.
Payment
An invoice will be sent to the address provided on the application form along with details about how to pay. Please do not send cheques or cash directly to the parks team as we have no means of processing.

- Frequently asked questions
Q. Can I scatter ashes around the tree or in the hole when it is planted?
A. We do not encourage the scattering of ashes within any of our parks and open spaces.
Q. Can I be present at the time of the tree planting?
A. Trees will ordinarily be planted between 7.30am and 3pm Monday to Thursday and 7.30am until 12pm on Fridays. You may be present during this time. If you wish to specify a time and day, this may be subject to an additional cost.
Q. Can I have a commemorative plaque?
A. Unfortunately, we do not offer this service; nor do we permit the planting or placing of flowers or any other adornments at the tree planting site. We do, however have a memorial bench scheme.
Q. Can I buy and plant my own tree?
A. All trees will be sourced and purchased by the council from a reliable and sustainable supplier. This is so that we can ensure the origins of the specimen and help to prevent the spread of pest and diseases.
Q. Can I plant a Christmas Tree?
A. No. Please refer to the list of trees suggested above.
