Frank Banfield Park is a small tranquil green space aware from the busy Fulham Palace Road. The park is named after a former Mayor and Alderman of the borough.
Frank Banfield Community Garden
Through S106 funding, we have created a new community garden and growing area as well as creating new landscaped features within the park.
The new features include:
- a large habitat wall that runs along the perimeter with Millie's Nursery, the habitat wall was filled by volunteers earlier in the year
- a new pond, planting areas and seating
- a Tiny Forest and wildflower meadow has been planted near the entrance on Playfair Street
- two fabricated shipping containers which house a kitchen, accessible toilet and storage have been installed in the growing area, along with several raised beds.
We are working with the Hammersmith Community Gardens Association (HCGA) and the Friends of Frank Banfield Park to form a new community group to manage the space. Should you be interested in joining please email info@hcga.org.uk

History
This open space, originally named Chancellors Park, was created as part of the housing clearance of Elmdale and Playfair Streets in 1974. Landscaping began in the summer of 1975 and later that year the park renamed Frank Banfield Park in honour of Frank Banfield, Mayor of Fulham, who died on 31 March 1970, aged 64, after a lifetime of public service. The park was extended in 1979-80 across Distillery Lane to Chancellors Road.
