Hammersmith & Fulham’s newest primary school – Ark White City Primary Academy – is celebrating its first intake of 30 new Reception pupils.
The pupils started their new school year on Thursday (5 September) with a lot of excitement about being back.
“It is one of my favourite days in the school year,” said Sophie Vellacott, Head of School.
“Watching the children’s excitement to be catching up with friends and teachers they’ve not seen all summer is always so rewarding.”
“The children have come back with a real buzz and excitement about the year ahead,” David Williams, principal, agreed.
“They have settled in so well into their newly prepared classrooms and the joy of learning is clear to see.”
Strong start to second year
The two-form entry school has state-of-the-art IT, sport and performing arts facilities. But a particular favourite with students is their rooftop area that they used as an outdoor classroom and reading nook on warm days.
Those aren’t the only perks students are looking forward to this year. Trips out into London are high on the agenda.
David, explained:
“We are developing our excursion offer for our pupils. London is an incredible place to grow up and we want to make sure our children experience large parts of it. From art galleries to parks and theatres – we have an incredible offer available to our pupils.”
This year the school’s teaching staff are once again focused on individual learning and building a strong community atmosphere where children can build their social skills.
“The thing that is most impressive to me,” David said, "is the knowledge the staff have of our pupils; they have a detailed awareness of their likes, challenges and strengths. This allows them to tailor their learning and ensure all children are supported.”
Bigger and better
The White City school was opened last year by H&F Leader Cllr Stephen Cowan and Cllr Patricia Quigley, Mayor of H&F, and is part of the exciting £150m EdCity development from H&F Council and education charity Ark.
The innovative partnership, part of our Industrial Strategy, has also brought WEST, a new state-of-the art youth centre to White City. It will also deliver 132 new affordable homes for local people, and 1,000 new jobs. All at no additional cost to the taxpayer.
