A community group is asking residents for their votes to help it bring a green oasis to a Fulham park.

Community group Sands End Associate Projects in Action (SEAPIA) has been shortlisted by supermarket Chain Tesco for a share of £12.5 million raised through its 5p plastic bags levy.

The group aims to put the funds towards its ‘The Big Community Plant Up’ project, getting local people young and old to plant up the empty flower beds in William Parnell Park.

“We are delighted to have been able to support SEAPIA with its funding bid and are thrilled that they have been shortlisted,” said Cllr Wesley Harcourt, H&F Cabinet Member for Environment, Transport and Residents’ Services.

“We are determined to be the greenest borough in the country and preserving and improving our parks and green spaces for residents is key to this.

“I would urge residents to go and vote for this local project and help make H&F an even greener place.”

The funding is being offered through the Tesco Bags of Change initiative and means SEAPIA are shortlisted alongside two other community groups, all vying for a share of the spoils.

SEAPIA is reliant of public votes for its scheme to ensure it can secure the vital cash, which will buy tools, equipment and plants for the project.

“It will be great to see this project come to life, with the young people of Sands End and the residents from local sheltered housing accommodation working together,” said Julie Cavanagh of SEAPIA.

“This project will improve our local park, help continue to build community spirit and promote physical and mental wellbeing.”

Through the Bags of Help initiative, Tesco has teamed up with Groundwork to offer grants of £12,000, £10,000 and £8,000 which will be awarded to environmental and green space projects.

To vote for SEAPIA, head to your nearest Tesco store and collect a token from the checkout. Voting opens on 31 October and closes on 13 November.
