Archives and local studies - support us

Find out how you can help us preserve the history of the borough.

Volunteers

We are always on the look out for volunteers to help us preserve the history of the borough. Our volunteers are currently working on a number of projects:

  • Digitising our photographic collections
  • Listing new donations
  • Location Audit of Pamphlet Collections
  • Collections Care

If you are interested in volunteering with us, please email archives@lbhf.gov.uk with information about:

  • Your interests
  • Your experience (in archives or heritage)
  • What you’d like to get out of volunteering with us.

Donating

Our mission is to collect records that reflect the wonderful history of Hammersmith and Fulham. To do this we need help from you. We actively collect material from a wide mix of people, organisations and institutions. If you feel you have something that should be added to our collections get in touch by emailing us at archives@lbhf.gov.uk.

What does donating mean?

Donating is the process of handing custody of historically significant material to Hammersmith and Fulham Archives and Local Studies. By donating to Hammersmith and Fulham Archives and Local Studies you are ensuring the survival of your records for generations to come.

What kind of material do we look for?

We look for any collections or records that hold historical importance for the borough. These could be:

  • Records from a recently closed business
  • Photographs of your family’s time in H&F
  • Papers for a protest campaign
  • Posters from a local venue

What do we do with your donation?

Your donation will be stored in an environment that best suits its preservation and conservation needs. It will then be catalogued and made available for public access for free. All material is also reviewed for data protection and other sensitivities that might restrict access.
