Information for the voluntary sector

Why we value our third sector organisations and what we're doing to help.

We give more than £3 million of grants to ensure local third sector organisations have the support they need to flourish. They provide many of the services local people rely on.

We value the passion and independence of the sector and celebrate the success of a diverse and vibrant local voluntary sector. Most importantly we recognise that the sector plays a critical role in:

  • promoting enterprising solutions to social, economic and environmental challenges
  • providing self-help, advocacy and a voice for residents and under-represented communities
  • campaigning for change
  • creating strong, active and connected communities
  • transforming the delivery and design of public services.

Premises and space

The Community Space page provides information for organisations seeking both halls for hire and office accommodation.

Council support for external fundraising

We are often asked to endorse funding applications from local groups to other funders. We are generally happy to so so, as long as the bid is a good one. If you would like to ask for our endorsement, please contact us as early as possible.

Sometimes a number of groups apply for the same funding and each seek our endorsement. In these cases, we try to facilitate a discussion about a partnership or consortium application - or at least ensure organisations have the opportunity to discuss the applications to avoid duplication.

Training and development

We fund Sobus which is a new community development agency for Hammersmith & Fulham. Sobus aims to provide training for third sector organisations to help them to develop and thrive. Training subjects include:

  • management committee training
  • writing successful funding applications
  • financial management
  • managing change
  • recruitment and retention of staff
  • managing partnerships
  • establishing a new voluntary or community group

Additional support and advice is available from other organisations. For example, Hammersmith & Fulham Volunteer Centre can provide advice and guidance on how to recruit, train and support volunteers.

H&F Community Compact

We have signed up to a local compact with the voluntary sector. This explains the principles, standards and promises which guide the relationships between the voluntary and community sector, the public and the business sector.

The compact includes a dispute resolution mechanism. For further details please contact Sobus or the Head of Community Investment.

If you are not happy with the way the compact is working or with how an organisation that has signed up to the compact is performing, you can contact:
