Children and adolescent mental health services (CAMHS) resources for professionals

Collective Voices 

For school staff – free.

Rethink offer free mental health awareness training in schools for teachers. This is delivered by young champions and mental health trusts. This training is bookable for In Service Training days, as twilight or 2 hour sessions.

Mental health first aid

For school staff, children and young people professionals and groups of professionals – free.

Mind provide mental health first aid training to schools. This is delivered as a 2-day course with capacity for 128 professionals per course. There is a particular target for schools.

Learn Well

Secondary schools – free.

Mind delivers 6 psycho-educational workshops to 11 to 16-year-olds in secondary schools. Schools can choose 2 core modules and 4 elective modules including:

  • relationships
  • mindfulness
  • sleep
  • stress
  • resilience

This course is conducted in groups at a time suitable for the school, including larger groups (assemblies and year groups) or smaller classes.

‘Mighty Me’ and therapeutic groups in primary schools and children’s centres

Direct work with children in primary schools and children’s centres across H&F and the Royal Borough of Kensington and Chelsea.

Partners in Practice (PiP)

Offer free bespoke training to a range of local authority staff.

Systemic Family Therapy.

One of PiP's primary focus is to equip staff (social workers and other local authority staff) with systemic thinking and skills to assist them in their work. The service also provides consultation and advice to foster carers and other agencies. PiP provides a 'Kids time programme' for early years.

In H&F, the CAMHS main provider is West London Mental Health Trust (WLMHT). The trust offers training on request to partner agencies.  

H&F Community CAMHS deliver bespoke training in schools some of which is free.

West London Mental Health Trust

Whole school approach for professionals, free universal offer to all schools.

Educational psychologists are working within every school across the 3 boroughs. They utilise a consultation model and work with a range of individuals including head teachers, teachers, support staff and children both individual and group-based.

Teacher supervision on emotional well-being.

ELSA

ELSA is a national programme for schools. Free targeted offer, funded by Clinical Commissioning Groups). Teaching Assistants receive training which is empowering and enables them to feel comfortable working with young people with emotional and social difficulties.

Nurture groups

For schools and nurseries. Free, targeted offer funded by Clinical Commissioning Groups. 

Across H&F, the Royal Borough of Kensington and Chelsea and Westminster City Council, delivered by educational psychologists for 2 days. 

Followed by 3-day nurture group training from National Nurture Group Trust. Targeted video interactive guidance (VIG) for parents and teachers. Autistic spectrum disorder and ADHD groups in schools.

Mental health training for foster carers and adopters

Bespoke mental health training and support for foster carers and adopters and others who work with looked after children.

Health and wellbeing

The Health Education Partnership delivers training in schools, early years settings and colleges. They have a whole school approach to improving the health and wellbeing of pupils, parents and staff.

Training sessions include information and knowledge on emotional wellbeing and positive relationships. Free CCG funded.
