After winning the toss at home to Hornsey last weekend, Shepherds Bush Cricket Club's 1st Xl batted first but failed to secure a total to seriously challenge a confident visiting team.

Bush were all out for 146, leaving Hornsey the relatively simple task of scoring 148 for 5, and therefore picking up 10 points in the 1st Xl Premier Division.

Marcus Howard fell two runs short of a half-century, Nick Appleton achieved 28, and Ikjot Thind – who came close to a double century the week before – managed 28.

But the rest of the batting order fell cheaply, with no other batter achieving double figures. Hornsey's bowling was accurate and pacey, with Troy Henry taking 6 for 21.

Put in to bat, Hornsey's openers went cheaply, with captain Tom Wyatt going for 8, caught by Howard off club captain Alisdair Easton's bowling, and Ben Miller out LBW to Henry Blofield.

But Harry Killoran's 54 not out steadied the ship, and his partnership with wicketkeeper Tom Lytle (31 not out) ensured Hornsey's win. Easton was the pick of Bush's bowling, taking three for 45 in 13 overs.

Away to Indian Gymkhana last weekend, Bush 2nds were all out for 96, although opener Hugo Hughes had a good knock, scoring 33, including two sixes and two fours facing 48 balls before being caught.

Bush's 1st Xl, who can still boast a 73% win rate despite last weekend's disappointment, host Stanmore this weekend. The match starts at 11am on Saturday 12 July, with the pavilion bar offering an antidote to the predicted 33 degree heat. Seating and shade provided.

Bush's 2nd Xl are away to Teddington 2nds on Saturday at 12.30pm, facing a tough task as Teddington's second team have won their last four matches.

But he has been a Chelsea fan since his father took an excited seven-year-old to watch Chelsea v Manchester United in the mid 1960s... and covered his ears every time the chanting got too ripe.

In July 2005 he wrote The Rough Guide to Chelsea, published by Penguin, which sold 15,000 copies.

His favourite player of all time is Charlie Cooke, the mazy winger who lit up Chelsea's left wing in the 60s and 70s.

When he isn't watching the Blues, Tim acts, paints, writes and researches local history.
