Donated benches scheme

Bench styles

We have limited the style of bench we offer for each park in order to ensure they are compatible with the rest of the benches in the park. If the park or open space you wish to have a bench in is not listed, please contact the parks team at parks@lbhf.gov.uk

Plaques

Plaques are made from brass and measure 6” x 3”. Your inscription will be engraved in black and should be no more than 72 characters (including spacing). Unfortunately, we are not able to provide proofs before manufacturing so please ensure you note any particular layout requirements in the additional comments box on the application form or upload an image showing us how you want the inscription to look.

You can also apply to have a plaque installed on a bench that is already in the park. We would renovate the bench as well to prolong its life.

Cost

The cost of your bench will be £2,000-£2,500 depending on type chosen.

Installing a plaque on an existing bench costs up to £1,000 depending on the bench type.

Please contact us for prices.

Installation and lead times

If you are ordering a new bench, it will be fixed securely in the agreed location using fixings suitable for the type of surface.

All benches on grassed areas will require new bases. The council reserves the right to choose an appropriate style of base for the site.

Plaques on existing benches will be screwed centrally into the top slat.

Lead times can vary depending on the style of bench and availability of installers. Officers will endeavour to keep you updated but we ask you to allow up to 12 weeks for completion.

After care and maintenance

The council will make every effort to maintain the bench but as it will be installed on a public site it cannot be held liable for any damage or vandalism. The council will guarantee the bench against defects for a period of three years only from the date of installation. As the bench is in a public space, to be enjoyed by many, we ask that you refrain from attaching further adornments such as bunting or any other ornaments.

Payment

An invoice will be sent to the address provided on the application form and will have details of how to pay on the reverse. Please do not send cheques or cash directly to the parks team as we have no means of processing.
