Fulham’s Pottery Café is celebrating 25 years of moulding memories, and everyone’s invited to paint along.
Whether to celebrate a hen do, capture precious baby footprints or to spend a fun afternoon with family and friends, the Fulham Road based DIY sanctuary has proven popular with residents over the years.
It first opened its doors in 1998, with British ceramicist Emma Bridgewater.
“After seeing pottery painting in the US, we saw an opportunity with Emma Bridgewater to bring that to Fulham using pottery made here in the UK,” said founder and owner of the Pottery Café, Aiden Collins.
“In the 25 years since we started, we have glazed and fired over one million pieces of pottery in our kilns in Fulham.”
Fired up
The painting studio offers a wide variety of blank pottery items to choose from – most of them handmade in Stoke-on-Trent, the world capital of ceramics.
With friendly staff on hand to give advice, and a range of crafty tools, transforming your design idea into a uniquely crafted piece of pottery is made fun and simple, no matter your skill level.
All creations are then hand-glazed and fired onsite to make them truly shine.
The open studio seats 50 painters (£7.50 per painting person plus the cost of the pottery), with private party room available for up to 18 painters.
Clay creators
Emma Bridgewater is one of several famous pottery makers to have lived and work in H&F.
In Kings Road a bottle kiln, now a Grade II listed building, marks the site of the Fulham Pottery. It was founded in 1672 by John Dwight, a pioneer in English pottery known for his salt-glazed stoneware.

Pottery painters can now secure their spot this May half term and enter for a chance to win in the studio’s lucky dip.
Prizes range from free hot drinks and paint-at-home pottery kits through to a painting party for six people. The offer runs from Monday 29 May and Friday 2 June.
