The impressive Lunar New Year party at Melcombe primary school hit the right note with pupils and parents on Tuesday.

The celebrations – featuring international percussionist Beibei Wang – were held at the school in Fulham Palace Road. The musical and artistic delights were enjoyed by local pupils, teachers and guests, including Cllr Alex Sanderson, H&F Cabinet Member for Children and Education.

The Hammersmith school began Chinese language classes with pupils in September as part of a pilot programme from local school Kensington Wade, which helped organise the event.

Melcombe primary school forms part of the Thames Federation with James Lee Nursery in Gliddon Road and Bayonne Nursery in Paynes Walk.

Anne-Marie Strachan, executive head of the Thames Federation, said: “Celebrating Chinese New Year was not only great fun but also highlighted the benefits of sharing different backgrounds and cultures for all in our school community. We’re delighted to be working with Kensington Wade.”
