Video transcript

I'm Patricia Quigley and I'm the new Mayor of Hammersmith & Fulham, which I feel very privileged to have been given that role.

I'm 57 years of age and I've lived in Hammersmith most of my life, since I was four years old.

Before I became a councillor I was a commissioner for the Disabled People's Commission, so I, along with nine other Disabled people in the borough wrote the commission data, the reporting which formed the blueprint for what today is the council's co-production policy.

It's very easy to make a judgment. We all do it. It's natural, it's human, we are all human.

But I want, if people look at me to say, 'Well, Patricia is the Mayor of Hammersmith & Fulham, and if I'm Disabled, what is my aspiration, and what can I do to achieve it?'

And if you have to make reasonable adjustments to get there, that is fine.

You just don't give up.

Whatever it is, you don't give up. Because if they can put a man on the moon and they can make me Mayor, then yeah, I would say to anyone reach for the stars.
