National Road Safety Week
18-22 November 2019
Led by national road safety charity BRAKE, Hammersmith & Fulham Council Transportation & Road Safety Team are again supporting National Road Safety Week, running from 18 to 22 November 2019.
This year’s theme is “Step Up For Safe Streets”, addressing the safety of all road users, particularly pedestrians, cyclists and motorcyclists.
Additional road safety officer activities scheduled during this week, and supported by Metropolitan Police:
Traffic speed monitoring and enforcement of 20mph areas through Community Roadwatch (in association with Transport for London). This is overseen by the Met Police Borough Roads and Transport Policing Command.
Close Pass: cyclist and traffic safety (also known as Space For Cyclists). This is facilitated by Met Police Cycle Safety Team
Exchanging Places: cyclist safety regarding proximity to large vehicles such as lorries. Facilitated by Met Police Cycle Safety Team
Advising motorists to be especially mindful of pedestrians, motorcyclists and cyclists, particularly as seasonal weather and morning and evening hours of darkness are encroaching.
This work supplements the ongoing road safety programme operating throughout the borough by the road safety team, covering the road network. Practical road safety training workshops are carried out in schools, nurseries and children’s centres.
