We believe electric vehicles are the future of travel. It’s better for the planet, reducing exhaust emissions and helping improve air quality.
Because of this, we want to do all we can to make driving and owning an electric vehicle in H&F as easy as possible.
Leading the charge for electric vehicles
To support residents in finding convenient, cost effective and accessible charge points close to their home, we have delivered the densest network of on-street charging points in the country.
There are now almost 2,800 charging points across the borough – and our network continues to grow. That's because we have:
- installed the largest network of on-street charging points in London providing over 300 destination charge points offering either a 7 or 22 kWh charge
- continued to develop our network of lamppost column charging points, now numbering more than 2,300
- installed the highest number of on street 50 kWh rapid charge points in London, with 10 across the borough, including 2 mini-hubs of 3 x CPs
- delivered nine high-powered, ultra-rapid 175kWh charge points as part of the borough's first all-electric charge hub in Fulham Road - the world's first converted Shell petrol station
- delivered over 200 dedicated charging bays in partnership with Liberty Charge as part of an InnovateUK funded project to utilise existing infrastructure.
Every home or office is now within 400 metres of a charging point. There are also electric charging points on private land, including some garage forecourts and in the car park of the Westfield London shopping centre.

The number of electric vehicles registered in H&F has grown from 46 in 2013 to 2,464 in 2020.

Lamppost column charging points
We currently have over 2,300 lamppost column charging points across the borough, operated by Ubitricity and SureCharge.
Some of the benefits of lamppost charging points include:
- less clutter by using existing 'street furniture'
- uses existing electricity supply and pre-existing network
- more chance of being able to charge near your home.

Users of any electric vehicle charge point must follow the restrictions displayed on the signs relevant to the location. Find out more about using EV charging bays.

You can find real-time information for all public and private charge points on PlugShare or Zap-Map to make sure you’ll never run out of charge.
Can I charge from my home supply?
If you have a private driveway or off-street parking, you may be able to charge your car directly from your home’s mains supply, as long as all equipment is wholly contained on your private land.
If you don’t have access to private off-street parking you may have considered running a cable across the pavement to your car. We don’t support this activity. It’s not permitted by the Highways Act and could lead to enforcement action. It can also cause a trip hazard.
It would be better to consider using a lamppost column charging point. If you don’t have one of these near your home or work, you can suggest a location for a lamp column charging point for us to consider.
If you do trail a cable over the pavement, it will be regarded as an illegal hazard and an obstruction to the public highway which will be subject to enforcement and possible prosecution under the Highways Act 1980.

Why should I go electric?
Electric cars produce no exhaust emissions, so they play a massive part in helping reduce local levels of air pollution.
With zero exhaust emissions* electric cars are exempt from road tax (vehicle excise duty) and depending on the battery, could be cheaper to run overall than using a petrol or diesel car. *Hybrid vehicles, which have both petrol and electric motors, may differ in exhaust emissions.
We offer low emissions vehicles a great discount on your parking permit and recently redcued parking charges for electric vehicles to £2.50 per hour.
H&F Shared Electric Van Service
We've teamed up with Zipcar, Fulham Broadway BID, W12 LandSec, and the Park Royal Business Group (PRBG) to launch the first shared electric van service for small and medium businesses in Hammersmith & Fulham.
