Parks police

We provide a reassuring uniformed presence across all our parks and open spaces. The team of one inspector, three sergeants and 25 constables have police powers within the parks and a duty to help keep the parks safe and welcoming places for everyone. The service is part of our Safer Neighbourhoods division.

We do all we can to reduce crime and anti-social behaviour by working with local communities and park users to identify issues and resolve them.

We also have a key role in supporting the response to any major incidents in the boroughs. Staff are able to monitor CCTV systems covering a number of parks.

We provide a service 365 days a year during daylight hours, and until 11pm during the summer. Some later patrols are also organised to tackle specific problems and respond to residents' concerns.

Parks police duties include:

  • high profile uniform patrolling on foot, bicycle and vehicle
  • reporting crime within the parks
  • detaining offenders
  • enforcing byelaws and the borough dog control orders
  • security at park events
  • dog chipping, dog shows and cycle marking
  • liaising with park user groups
  • locking major parks
  • lost property in parks
  • truancy patrols.

In an emergency dial 999.
