Council tax energy rebate payment

You can get a one-off payment of £150 as part of a government package to help with rising energy bills. You do not need to pay this back.

If you have not received the £150 into your bank account, you will need to apply online.

Who is eligible

  • You must be liable for the council tax at the property on the 1 April 2022.
  • Be in council tax band A - D (or band E if a disabled band reduction applies).
  • The property must be your main home.
  • Some properties which are exempt from council tax will receive the rebate – Class N (homes occupied by students), S (persons under 18), U ( severely mentally impaired) or W (annexes occupied by dependant relative).

Second homes and empty properties will not be eligible.

We can now confirm that payments of £150 have been made to all eligible direct debit accounts on 31 May 2022 and these payments will show in bank accounts within the next five working days.

How to apply

You will need to register for an account and must ensure you have the following to hand before starting the process.

  • Council tax account reference number (starts with a 6 and can be found on your council tax bill).
  • Property reference (this can be obtained via the Valuation Office Agency. Search using your postcode, select your property from the list and make a note of the local authority reference number).
  • Bank account details for payment to be made to.

Once you have the information listed above, you can apply for your energy rebate.

The closing date for the application is 31 August 2022
