How to win public contracts
We spend around £250 million each year on goods, works and services. In the past, too much of this has gone to firms outside the borough. While still keeping costs down, we are now taking a 'community benefit' or 'social value' approach to procurement that supports local businesses, jobs and apprenticeships.
This makes it easier for local small firms to bid for council contracts and we're also taking other steps to build a local supplier market. As a first step, register on the capitalEsourcing website, which we use to advertise all contract opportunities, then get advice on how to win contracts.
Brilliant Business Awards
Every year, our Brilliant Business Awards shine a light on the work of the borough's traders to help them reach new customers, get useful publicity and recognise the enormous benefits they bring to the area.
HFBrill4Biz Supply Chain
HFBrill4Biz Supply Chain is a free business support programme funded by the council which helps local companies to access and win work from major property developments in the borough.
They can introduce you to buyers committed to buying more locally and using local traders.They can help improve your chances of winning the work through workshops and one-to-one advice.

H&F Means Business event
H&F Means Business is our annual event for all businesses, from new start-ups to long established companies, to come together under one roof for a free day of networking, advice and support. This year's event was on Wednesday 3 April 2019.
The event, in partnership with Your Business Community, a business support group, included:
- A main exhibition of circa 40 exhibitors - an opportunity for local businesses to promote their goods and services to fellow entrepreneurs
- One-to-one advice clinics, enabling business owners to discuss specific issues, ideas or problems with experts in their field. Advice includes accounting, law, marketing and sales
- Information seminars, workshops and speed networking sessions ran throughout the day.
We publish a business directory to help people looking for local suppliers or contacts.
