Duplicate certificates

In response to the coronavirus outbreak and acting on advice from government, the register office is open for pre-booked birth and death appointments only. You can order certificates online with us or through the General Register Office for England and Wales (GRO).

Ordering a certificate

We hold all of the death entries in the Hammersmith & Fulham Register since 1837. If you would like to order a death certificate you need to provide the following information about the entry:

  • full name
  • date of death
  • place of death.

You can now order a certificate online and pay by debit or credit card only, selecting different services and post options. We no longer offer a collection service or ‘Order in person’ option as the register office is open for pre-booked appointments only. Please do not attend the register office to try to order or collect certificates.

Processing times and costs

Standard service

Our standard service takes five working days to be processed.

Please allow extra time for it to arrive in the post, up to 10 working days.

  • Certificate – Posted using Royal Mail Signed For Delivery*: £13
  • Certificate – Posted using Royal Mail Special Delivery**: £18
  • Certificate – Posted using Royal Mail International Tracked & Signed Delivery**: £19

Priority service

Our priority Service takes 24 hours (1 working day) to be processed and produced. All the required information needs to be provided in order for us to locate the entry and process the certificate as a priority.

The certificate will ready 24 hours (1 working day) after it was ordered. For example, if the certificate was ordered at 10am, it will be ready at 10am the following day and therefore posted the following day.

While you wait service

A While-You-Wait Service normally takes 1 hour to process. You will need to order the certificate before 12pm in order for the certificate to be produced on the same day and then posted using the postage options below. All the required information needs to be provided in order for us to locate the entry and process the certificate as a priority.

Deaths outside Hammersmith & Fulham

If the death occurred outside Hammersmith & Fulham, you can order the death certificate directly from the register office where the death entry is held.

Unknown information

All records of deaths which took place in England and Wales will be held at the General Register Office (GRO). The GRO is able to carry out a much wider search in cases where details are not known. You can order a certificate online or by phone on 0300 123 1837.
