Citizenship ceremonies

Citizenship ceremonies - Due to capacity restrictions and social distancing conditions, no guests will be allowed to attend a group citizenship ceremony.

You also have the option for a private citizenship ceremony. Please note that we can only book your ceremony once we have received your certificate of naturalisation from the Home Office, you will need to wait until you receive an invitation letter from the Home Office. Customers would normally be expected to book their citizenship ceremony within three months of being sent an invitation from the Home Office. Due to the current pandemic circumstances UKVI have extended this period to six months and will keep this under constant review. Customers should be advised that no adverse decisions will be made on applications because of delays caused by coronavirus.

You can now order certificates online with us or through the General Register Office for England and Wales (GRO).

We no longer offer a collection service or 'order in person' option as the Register Office is open for pre-booked appointments only.

Please do not visit the register office to try to order and or collect certificates.

Deaths and still-births

Deaths and still-births - We’re currently only offering telephone appointments for death and stillbirth registrations. Please do not attend the register office.

You can still book an appointment online but instead we will call you at your appointment start time. The doctor or hospital will need to send us the medical cause of death certificate electronically to enable us to arrange the telephone registration.

Notices of intention to marry or form a civil partnership

Following the latest government guidance and road map announcement, we are prioritising notice appointments for couples with a confirmed ceremony booking within 2 months or where a notice needs to be given due to exceptional circumstances. Supporting evidence will be required in these circumstances. 

In order to book a notice appointment please email your request along with your ceremony booking confirmation email and or supporting evidence to – we will then deal with your request in line with current guidance and appointment availability.         

EUSS- EU Settlement Scheme ID verification

EUSS- EU Settlement Scheme ID verification - In response to the coronavirus pandemic and in the interests of protecting all users of council services, we are no longer able to offer the EUSS ID verification walk-in service.

Remember you can still verify your documents yourself. All you’ll need is a compatible Android phone, iPhone or tablet. This can be your own phone or tablet, or someone else’s.
