H&F Council is leading the way in developing and promoting widely a calendar of events which can be appreciated by all and which are accessible and informative both to the workforce and our residents, schools, academies and other educational institutions, suppliers and stakeholders to enhance learning and education for all.

Introduction

Welcome to our Black History Month celebrations. We're working to present a varied calendar of events that reflect on our fantastic Black history that can be appreciated by all.

We want to pay tribute to our Black culture and history all year long. Please check out our Black History 365 webpage for more details.

Join us for speeches, music and the official unveiling of internationally famous. Caribbean singer Millie Small who lived in Shepherds Bush.

POP Art Craft

Saturday 28 October, 2.30pm-3.30pm, Shepherds Bush Library

Do you love art? We will be spending the afternoon creating pieces of art relating to Barack Obama, Martin Luther King and many more. For children aged 3-10 years old.

Hidden History in the streets of central and west London

Tony Warner and his book, Black History Walks.

Tony Warner established Black History Walks (BHW) in 2007. BHW explores the thousands of years of African/Caribbean history in London via 15 guided walks, bus tours, river cruises, talks, films and courses.

BHW has featured on BBC, ITV, Arise TV, The Guardian, Huffington Post, Time Out and Channel 4. Tony has written and presented documentaries for Teachers TV. Conde Nast Traveller listed BHW in their Best 15 walks in London in 2018. And in 2011, the Guardian put them in their Top Ten walks.

Tony Warner, author of Black History Walks in London Volume 1, will give a sample of some of the intriguing, unknown and obvious African/Caribbean history in Hammersmith & Fulham and surrounding areas.

We will cover:

  • ancient Africa
  • the Last White Man Standing
  • rivers, religion, and racism
  • the superhero connection
  • Black business success and British civil rights
  • Black Police that changed London
  • Mangrove 9, Diabetes and the USA
  • eugenics and education.
