The cleanliness of Hammersmith & Fulham’s streets continues to get better after the latest figures revealed a year-on-year improvement.

The figures, provided by independent auditors WYG, showed that litter levels on sampled streets were significantly lower than the same time last year.

The latest litter score showed just 2.8 per cent of H&F streets failed to meet the required standards, versus 5.4 per cent last year.

Detritus levels dropped from 3.4 per cent to 1.8 per cent.

“We welcome these encouraging figures, this is great news for residents,” said Sue Harris, H&F Council Director for cleaner, greener and cultural services.

“However we know there’s still lots to be done and we’ll continue to work hard to improve the service for, and with residents, to keep our streets looking spotless.”

The good news follows the previous audit figures which confirmed the borough’s streets were the cleanest they’d ever been.

Alongside the litter levels, the recorded level of detritus – leaf litter and other natural mess – was the lowest it has been since the start of H&F’s contract with street cleaners, Serco.

H&F Council appointed Andy Stocker as a new Street Czar earlier this year to work alongside residents and help with any litter and waste issues.

“Seeing how residents are as passionate as we are about keeping our streets spotless has been brilliant,” said Andy.

“I’ve already worked alongside many of them to resolve issues in their local areas and these figures show we’re moving in the right direction, but there’s still lots more work to do.”
