Find out what’s happening across our borough to tackle the climate and ecological emergency this London Climate Action Week.

Starting on Monday 28 June, join us for a week of free online events.

“Come along to find out how H&F Council and our community are taking bold action to tackle the climate emergency and build a thriving future for our children,” said Cllr Wesley Harcourt, H&F Cabinet Member for the Environment.

Five areas of climate action

We are running five online ‘lunch and learn’ events throughout the week, starting Monday 28 June, with the following themes:

  • homes, buildings and energy
  • travel
  • things we buy
  • ecology
  • adapting to climate change.

Each talk will showcase work that H&F Council is doing and hear stories of community action with local charities and partners including Urban Partnership Group, Hammersmith Community Gardens AssociationGroundwork, Fulham Palace, Pedal Back Cycling and No Waste Jose.

Monday 28 June

12 noon-1pm – Buildings and Net Zero

Did you know buildings are the biggest source of carbon emissions in H&F? We will explain how we’re tackling this challenge and about the new “whole house retrofit” scheme on West Kensington & Gibbs Green estate. Hear from Urban Partnership Group about their solar panels at the Masbro Centre and lessons learnt from a resident’s personal retrofit journey.

Tuesday 29 June

12 noon-1pm – The Future of Travel

Hear how H&F Council are encouraging active travel, reducing traffic and transitioning to electric vehicles. With talks from our transport team, local bike shop Pedal Back Cycling and members of the community, this talk will showcase how cutting carbon emissions results in cleaner air, safer streets and healthier lifestyles.

Wednesday 30 June

12 noon-1pm – Low Waste Living

To tackle the climate emergency, we need to change the way we buy and use things to eliminate waste. Hear how local organisations including No Waste Jose and the Washable Nappy Company who are helping us move towards low waste living. The recycling team at H&F will share ways we can support you.

Thursday 1 July

12 noon-1pm – Biodiversity and the Climate Emergency

The consequences of a heating climate are already being seen in nature and one in four species are at risk of extinction. Come along to find out how the community is protecting and enhancing local biodiversity. Find out how Hammersmith Community Gardens Association, Fulham Palace and the H&F Parks team are making space for nature.

Friday 2 July

12 noon-1pm – Adapting to Climate Change in H&F

How do we prepare our people and places for the impacts of a changing climate? Learn more about the local impacts of climate change and what we’re doing to address this. Speakers include Groundwork who will talk about the pioneering work on Queen Caroline Estate and Hammersmith Community Gardens Association. This talk will show how the steps we’re taking to protect our community will also help bring about a greener, safer and more resilient built environment.
