Inventive residents in White City and Wormholt have transformed the windows in their homes to create a community advent calendar trail.

The Living Advent trail has seen the neighbourhood come together with different local families decorating a new window every day... from backlit angels to Christmas stockings, messages of hope to beaming Santas.

“A new window is switched on every evening at 6.30, we send out details of what road the home is on to our neighbourhood groups,” said organiser Elizabeth Uwalaka.

The trail was set up by parishioners at the Our Lady of Fatima church in White City, with community groups including the Wormholt Residents’ Association getting behind it.

“It’s brilliant having something positive to bring people together. Seeing the bright windows around our community really lightens up the dark nights,” said local resident Clare Fuchs.

Local photographer, David McWilliams, has created an online album of the photos – called Advent Live – adding each day’s window as it is revealed.

An exhibition of the complete set of photos will be held next Spring at the Our Lady of Fatima church hall.
