New changing facilities and a free discount card are among the benefits coming to residents as part of H&F’s new leisure contract.
The good news comes after Hammersmith & Fulham Council recently renewed its agreement with charitable social enterprise GLL to run the Hammersmith Fitness & Squash Centre, Lillie Road Fitness Centre and the Phoenix Fitness Centre & Janet Adegoke Swimming Pool.
“We’re delighted that these changes will help residents have more opportunities to live healthier active lives, in better, modernised facilities,” said Cllr Wesley Harcourt, H&F Cabinet Member for Environment.
GLL will invest in the local community through both financial and in-kind support to projects that encourage local people to get active, learn and play together.
This will also include support for 49 of the borough’s burgeoning young athletes, to help them achieve their sporting goals.
Changes for the Better
As part of the new contract, each of the three leisure centres – operating under the GLL’s brand name ‘Better’ - will get upgraded facilities to improve residents’ experiences. This will include new equipment, and improvements to gym and studio spaces.
At Hammersmith Fitness & Squash Centre there will be improvements to changing facilities, as well as a reconfigured reception area, including fast pay kiosks to support cashless payments.
Lillie Road Fitness Centre will get improved changing areas and new reception area.
And at Phoenix Fitness Centre & Janet Adegoke Swimming Pool there wil be a new ‘swipe and enter’ access through the main reception as well as a complete refurbishment of the changing facilities.
Working across all three sites a new ‘Pay & Play’ membership card, available to all borough residents, will give discounts on various sport and leisure services.
“As a charitable social enterprise, we exist to provide affordable, accessible leisure facilities in the communities that we serve,” said Simon Sen, GLL regional director.
“In carrying out improvements to our centres in the borough, we can provide a modern, high-quality experience for our customers, and help get more people more active, more often.”
