Shepherds Bush Green
We’re asking residents if they would like controls introduced in 2015 to stop people using Shepherds Bush Green as a public toilet to be extended.
Three years ago the council introduced a Public Spaces Protection Order (PSPO) across the Shepherds Bush Green ward, following complaints from residents about people urinating on, or around the green.
The order lasted three years, and during that time we’ve fined 58 people. Now we are required to consult local people on this, and we’d like to know if you want us to keep it going.
“There are two public toilets just a short distance from Shepherds Bush Green, so there’s no excuse for people to treat it disrespectfully,” said Cllr Wesley Harcourt, H&F Cabinet Member for Environment.
“Residents told us they wanted us to take action, we did, and the results have been very effective.
“Now we’d like them to tell us if they want us to carry on with these measures, so we can keep this green space safe and pleasant for the many families and children that enjoy it.”
How it works
Through the PSPO, people caught urinating or defecating on the green could be prosecuted or fined up to £100 by the council. It is enforced by police officers, neighbourhood wardens, parks police and street scene officers.
It was introduced after the council ran a month-long consultation, where 97 per cent of respondents (67 out of 68) voted in favour of the new controls.
