We’re ready to move to the next stage of improving North End Road with new funding that includes a million pounds negotiated from property developers – and we’d like to know what you think.

Since 2014, the council has been working to improve the quality and character of North End Road to make it a thriving retail and food destination.

“The big, traffic-free seasonal markets which we’ve been running since Christmas 2014 have already boosted North End Road and now we’re taking things to the next level, with significant new funding,” said Cllr Andrew Jones, H&F Cabinet Member for Economic Development and Regeneration.

The first step will be a study looking at traffic options for the road, using a £50,000 grant from Transport for London. This will be followed by major improvements with a budget of at least £1 million.

Cllr Jones added, “We believe in working with people, not doing things to them, so we’re holding two meetings to get residents’, traders’ and businesses’ views on what this transport study should look at.”

  • Local residents and businesses are invited to a meeting on Monday 26 February from 6.30-8.15pm
  • Local stallholders and businesses are invited to a meeting on Wednesday 28 February from 1-3pm

Both meetings will be held at St John’s Church in North End Road, SW6 1PB.

Following the study, we’ll be holding further extensive meetings and consultation with residents, shops and stallholders to explore how best to spend the £1 million H&F Council has negotiated from property developers on making short-term and long-term improvements to the traffic, market and shops in North End Road.

Cllr Jones added, “We’re already looking to raise further funds for this work. It’s all part of what we’re doing to make H&F the best place to work, live and play in Europe.”

Revitalising North End Road

Since 2014, Hammersmith & Fulham Council has been working with businesses, traders and residents in the North End Road Action Group (NERAG) to boost North End Road and its 130-year-old market as a thriving shopping destination. It has:

  • Launched popular traffic-free markets
  • Attracted new regular traders and shoppers to the road
  • Helped more businesses to move to the high street
  • Reduced the number of vacant shops on street
  • Made it easier and cheaper for new traders to join the market with its Trade for a Tenner scheme.

Enjoy North End Road Spring Market

Everyone is also invited to come and welcome the spring on 17 March with the North End Road Spring Market from 9am to 6pm.

The road will be pedestrianised and packed with stalls up to Lillie Road. There’ll be food and drink, a cornucopia of things to buy and loads of entertainment, including live music and a funfair.
