Hammersmith & Fulham Council has helped put £1million into the pockets of local traders.

H&F Brill Bizz Supply Chain is the council’s new business support programme that makes it easier for small and medium-sized firms to win lucrative work contracts in the borough.

The latest business to reap the rewards of the H&F scheme were Nu Electrics – a small electrical company based in Hammersmith – who recently won a refurbishment contract with Westfield London shopping centre in Shepherds Bush.

“We want to help even more local companies thrive in the borough and benefit from the major property and infrastructure improvements in H&F,” said Cllr Andrew Jones, H&F Cabinet Member for Economic Development and Regeneration. “We are making it easier for small firms to have more opportunities, more jobs and more training to win these big contracts.

“We want to make H&F the best place for businesses to start up, survive and grow.”

Earlier this year, Hammersmith & Fulham Council launched its new Industrial Strategy (pdf) outlining how the council could help offer economic growth for everyone.

The H&F Brill Bizz Supply Chain pilot scheme was launched in March 2017, and gives advice and guidance to small businesses in:

• the art of writing tenders
• gaining the appropriate trade accreditations
• finding work opportunities and council contracts.

Founder and director of Nu Electrics Chris Scranney explained how the business support programme helped his own business in the borough.

“Hammersmith & Fulham’s Supply Chain programme has been brilliant for us and has translated into immediate opportunities and actual contracts as well as giving us a lot of good advice,” said Chris.

His company have been awarded a substantial six-figure contract to complete the first phase of the back of house lighting refurbishment at Westfield shopping centre.

The Hammersmith resident founded Nu Electrics in 2007. He previously worked on the Terminal 5 project at Heathrow Airport before deciding to open his own business.

General Manager of Westfield in Shepherds Bush Emma Hindes said: “We are delighted to work with Hammersmith & Fulham Council to support local businesses and maximise the benefits of regeneration that Westfield London is delivering in the area. Nu Electrics in Hammersmith and Lowe Group in White City presented high quality proposals and we look forward to those companies working with us at the centre.”

Lowe Group

The White City building firm also landed a six-figure contract with Westfield shopping centre to refurbish the back of house toilets.

Richard Wilson founded the company in 2008 after beginning his career working for his family’s main contracting and development business.

Graham Ford Architects (GFA)

GFA is a small architectural practice based in Hammersmith that has built a working relationship with MITIE, the council’s social housing maintenance contractor.

GFA were awarded the chance to work on eight planning applications for MITIE which has so far spent £15,000 with them.

The studio is led by Graham Ford with one senior associate and three qualified young architects making up the rest of the team that was established in 2006.
