Disabled cyclists get on track with new inclusive BMX sessions in White City

A new BMX session that is open to residents with disabilities has launched in Hammersmith & Fulham.

Supported by sports development charity Access Sport, Hammersmith BMX club have launched their very own Wingz BMX sessions. Wingz is inclusive and open to anyone with any disability, impairment and/or additional need, the sessions are also deaf-friendly.

The sessions launched on Saturday 4 March at Hammersmith BMX track off Scrubs Lane.

“Wingz BMX is a great opportunity for disabled young people to learn to ride at their own pace, without having to ride a trike, or being separated from other riders,” said Adam Thomas, Development Manager at Access Sport.

“We’ll ditch the adapted bikes and stabilisers and get you up and flying in no time.

“It is a great workout for mind, body and soul, all while making friends for life with like-minded people in your local community.”

Everyone is welcome

Hammersmith BMX club was set up in 2014 and supported by Access Sport, and as well as Wingz, the club offers weekly mainstream and female only BMX sessions every Saturday.

All ages and abilities are welcome and the group also offers outreach sessions to local schools and youth groups throughout the week.

All equipment will be provided including bikes and safety equipment. Inclusive balance bikes for all ages are also available and all coaching is provided by inclusively trained BMX coaches.

“Wingz BMX is a great addition to H&F and another opportunity to ensure more residents have the chance to get outside, have fun, build confidence and stay fit and healthy too,” said Cllr Sue Fennimore, H&F Cabinet Member for Social Inclusion.
