Outstanding businesses in Hammersmith & Fulham were honoured at a glittering awards ceremony last night.

Some were voted for by residents, while others were chosen by judges, with the winners revealed at the Brilliant Business Awards at Hammersmith Town Hall.

“We want this to be the most amazing business borough in Europe,” said H&F Council Leader Stephen Cowan, addressing the shortlisted businessman and women on the night.

“We think we can do it and we’ll do it with you. Let’s make H&F a place where entrepreneurs come to thrive.”

He pointed out H&Fs multitude of transport links, fantastic business and research already based or currently moving into the borough, as well as the opportunities for start-ups which help make the borough unique.

He added: “There’s no other part of London, let alone the country who can argue that they have the ingredients to be the most world-beating part of the UK. All of you in this room are going to be part of that story.”

More than 2,800 people took part in the H&F Brilliant Business Award’s Public Vote, putting forward their favourites in three separate polls for Shepherds Bush, Hammersmith and Fulham.

The second part of the competition was the Judges’ Prize, where H&F’s traders applied to be considered by a panel of business leaders.

“We really weren’t expecting it,” said Anderson Caicedo, joint owner of Green Bay Supermarket.

“We’ve been working really hard and it’s really encouraging.

“These awards are a great opportunity to get our message across, meet other businesses and engage with the community. It’s amazing.”

The vegan supermarket, which has only been open for three months, was also highly commended in the Best New Business and Best Small Business categories.

“It’s really exciting, we’re really happy,” said joint owner Amine Sondarjee.
