Young H&F residents showcase films on knife crime danger

Two ground-breaking films on knife crime were given their London premieres last week.

The dangers that carrying knives can bring to communities have been highlighted in two ground-breaking films made by young people in Hammersmith & Fulham.

Made by teenagers who have been affected by knife and drug crime in H&F and neighbouring boroughs, the films received their premiere at an event in Regent Street last week.

The young filmakers received professional assistance to transfer their personal experiences to the big screen, with Fully Focused Productions and Latimer helping draft scripts and make the films themselves. The films were made possible thanks to funding from the Mayor’s Office for Policing and Crime, secured by H&F’s youth offending team.

Cllr Sue Fennimore, H&F Cabinet Member for Social Inclusion, said: “It is moving to see young people in H&F using their personal experiences so positively, warning others of the dangers of knife and drug crime in such a compelling, creative way.

“This important and innovative project not only serves a crucial educational role for those who watch the films, but helps give the young filmmakers involved some great vocational experience.”
