There were celebrations across Hammersmith & Fulham today after students picked up another impressive set of results.

Early indications suggest pupils achieved even better results than last year.

“Students have worked incredibly hard, said Cllr Sue Macmillan, Cabinet Member for Children and Education. “It’s great to see another set of fantastic results which reflects that.

“Congratulations to everyone picking up your results today. I wish you the best of luck for your future.”

Those celebrating in the north of the borough included Jibril Hassan, 18, who was among Phoenix High School’s highest achievers, with an A* in Maths, an A in Chemistry and a B in Physics, securing his place at University College London to study Chemical Engineering.

“I have been on my laptop all morning trying to find out whether I had got a place,” he said.

“Thankfully it was announced early at around 7.30am. I needed three As and was very nervous – so it was really emotional when the results came through. I did not really sleep at all last night but I am over the moon now.”

In Hammersmith, William Morris Sixth Form student Saif Eshaq, who came to the UK from Iraq just five years ago, was delighted with his results

Although he didn’t speak English when he arrived, the 19-year-old from White City is now set to head to the University of Portsmouth to study civil engineering.

Saif achieved an A in Arabic, B in physics, C in maths and a B in the Extended Project Qualification – a dissertation of his choice, in which he examined the question ‘Is there a future for minorities in Iraq and Syria under stable government?’

“I was so stressed last night,” Saif revealed. “But I’ve always wanted to do engineering and hopefully I can use my university course to help in Iraq.”

Julia Stammers, 18, will be heading to Nottingham Trent to study psychology after her hard work at Fulham’s Lady Margaret School.

Her A, B and B grades have paved the way for a career in a subject which truly inspires her.

“I love psychology, said the Fulham resident. “It’s fascinating and I want to use it to help people. But to help them, you have to understand them.”
