Part gig, part literary gathering and part nature symposium – that’s how the new Caught by the River Thames weekend describes itself.

The innovative new festival makes its debut at Fulham Palace on Saturday 6 August and Sunday 7 August. And to celebrate, we are offering an exclusive 2-for-1 ticket deal for residents – use the links below to redeem.

According to festival organisers Robomagic Live – who recently staged the successful Nile Rodgers-led FOLD festival at the palace – the event is a gathering of ‘bands and brewers, authors and artists, thinkers and drinkers’.

The idea for Caught by the River came from Heavenly Recordings founder and Shepherds Bush-based music promoter Jeff Barrett, who wanted to combine his interest in fishing and the great outdoors with some top bands.

And there are few other places where you can combine the tranquillity of the Thames, the natural beauty of the Fulham Palace grounds and the sheer mind-bending power of Welsh rockers Super Furry Animals.

Musicians sharing the impressive bill include Beth Orton, Low, Temples, Mulatu Astatke, Ryley Walker and Darren Hayman, to name but a few.

But there is also plenty more thinking, drinking and reciting from Chris Packham of BBC Springwatch fame who will join Lauren Laverne in conversation, while London spoken word artist Kate Tempest will discuss words and the world with Miranda Sawyer. While Tim Burgess of Manchester band The Charlatans will also give a talk in the Walled Garden.

And if all else fails, you can always join the Ten Mile Beer Festival for a quiet pint. As the say organisers: “It’s a ready- made escape plan for a two-day inner city musical road trip that explores the natural world and a multitude of mind-expanding spaces beyond it.

“Fulham Palace is a best-kept secret in a city that’s not got many unturned stones left.”
