A free extravaganza of cultural events is on offer in Hammersmith town centre.

The award-winning HammersmithLondon Summer Festival has launched with a packed schedule of activities including theatre, circus and dance performances, yoga sessions and screenings of live opera and Wimbledon tennis.

Hammersmith’s Lyric Square is hosting the free summer festival until 20 July, which includes a daring outdoor circus piece weaving together comedy with awe-inspiring aerial, acrobatic and physical performances. While from 21 June the square will feature exciting dance shows from choreographers hand-picked by the team at DanceWest.

The festival is chance for residents, workers and visitors in Hammersmith town centre to revel in some of the cultural experiences on offer.

If sport is your thing, bag a deckchair and watch as all the drama from the courts of Wimbledon unfolding live on the big screen from 27 June to 10 July, with the chance to sample free strawberries from the Strawberry Wall in nearby Kings Mall.

Budding yogis can enjoy lunchtime yoga on Wednesdays from 29 June to 13 July, while guided walks around the area will take place on 2 July and 6 August, focusing on former Hammersmith resident and composer Gustav Holst.

Watch Wimbledon unfolding live on the big screen from 27 June to 10 July

The big screen will be taken over with a live showing of Il Trovatore from the Royal Opera House on 14 July and why not grab a few friends to enjoy Picnic in the Square from 11-13 and 18-20 July, sitting outside on one of the festival’s giant 20ft long picnic tables.
