All Saints pupils celebrate their tennis victory

Watch out Andy Murray! The next generation of tennis stars are on the rise. They showed off their skills at a nail-biting tournament in Bishops Park recently.

And when the dust settled, it was Year 3 and 4 pupils from Fulham’s All Saints primary school who had volleyed, served and slammed their way to a trophy. The Bishops Avenue school’s A Team defeated opponents from fellow Fulham school St John’s in Filmer Road.

The victory means the All Saints team will compete against teams from across the capital in the London Youth Games final held in Crystal Palace on 30 June.

Organiser Stephen Hughes said: “I am delighted the event has grown considerably over the years – with several schools now fielding two teams. This is an important event developing pupils’ social and emotional skills through the medium of sport.”

Teams from Normand Croft, Lena Gardens, Sir John Lillie, Miles Coverdale, St Johns XXIII, All Saints, Holy Cross, St Stephen’s, St John’s and John Betts took part in the round robin tournament held at the Bishops Park Tennis Centre.

Two boys and two girls formed a team, with the round robin matches lasting two-and-a-half hours. The winners of each group played in the knockout stages.

The annual tournament is supported by Hammersmith & Fulham Council and every school in the borough is invited.
