Reduce waste by sending unwanted household items through The Loop

Sofas, broken fridges and wooden sideboards. Dumped by the roadside, these unwanted household goods look rather unsightly and cause a headache for residents.

But now, your unwanted household goods can be given a new life and transformed from eyesores to objects of desire through an innovative new project in White City.

The Loop, which opened earlier this month at The Undercroft, below the flats of Hargraves House in Australia Road, provides cheap household goods for residents along with work and training opportunities, while also reducing the amount of rubbish being dumped at the roadside, by ‘upcycling’ unwanted items.

“This an example of the innovative ways we are working collaboratively to tackle the issue of waste and dumped rubbish, while also providing a service for local residents to obtain items for their homes that might otherwise be beyond their budgets,” said Cllr Lisa Homan, H&F Council’s Cabinet Member for Housing.

“With the reduction in local levels of bulky waste, as well as offering training and volunteering opportunities, The Loop is a most welcome addition to this estate.”

The Loop is one of five new reuse hubs in London, where unwanted goods can be refurbished and redistributed and also offers opportunities for accredited training, employment and volunteering for local residents.

Your unwanted goods are collected for free, expertly refurbished and then sold on at a competitive price.

The Loop, based at Hargraves House, will accept wooden furniture in a resalable condition, clean sofas and working white goods. A full list of accepted items can be downloaded from the website.

The Loop is the result of a partnership between Hammersmith & Fulham Council, Groundwork London and the London Community Resource Network (LCRN) and is funded from a European Commission programme supporting community re-use enterprises which promote communities working to reduce levels of dumped rubbish.

To arrange free collection, please contact James on 07702 942164, or email: whitecity.reuse@groundwork.org.uk. Please note, The Loop can only collect from the White City Estate. Residents from elsewhere in H&F are welcome to drop-off their unwanted goods at The Undercroft, Hargraves House, Australia Road, W12 7NF.
