A talented restaurant manager is pushing his business to new levels of excellence after opening in Ravenscourt Park six weeks ago.

Just a California roll’s throw from the greenery of the park, Feng Sushi opened its restaurant in King Street, after a year of successfully running a delivery service from the building’s basement.

The new branch is the eighth in the London-wide chain, which was formed 16 years ago and complements the company’s sister store in Fulham.

But it is Polish-born Jakub Zoledzki who is the driving force behind the business’s recent success, having quickly been promoted through the ranks from delivery driver, to front of house, and the 21-year-old is now the company’s youngest, and one of its most successful general managers.

Jakub says his quick rise through the ranks is down to his attention to detail, attentiveness with customers and willingness to always push things to be better.

“I have tripled the store’s revenue,” he says modestly. “I listen to what customers say and I try to look after them and give them a good service.”

Not bad for someone who came to the UK on holiday with his sister, but fell in love with London, got a job with Feng Sushi and now seems destined for greatness.

Under his careful stewardship, the team delivers Feng’s trademark dishes, salmon avocado rolls, edamame miso soup, rock shrimp and udon noodle soup, to appreciative customers. Many who have come to eat after dog-walking in the park, yoga classes, or collecting their kids from the nearby schools.

Feng’s version of fish and chips is a real favourite from their children’s menu he says.

Fish and chips may not sound like the usual sushi offering, but the fried hake, served with chips, homemade tartar and sweet chilli is an example of how Feng Sushi tries to be honest to its Japanese sensibilities, while acknowledging its business is based in the multi-cultural capital of the world.

“We respect those Japanese roots, but we are in busy London, so want to reflect that,” adds Jakub.
