More H&F residents are working with the council to provide a day of safe play for their children.

Following the successful launch of Play Street events in Shepherds Bush, earlier this year, residents in nearby Galloway Road will be closing off their road to traffic this Sunday.

Through the Play Street scheme, residents are granted a traffic order by H&F Council, enabling them to temporarily close their road for children to play games such as hopscotch, street football and hide and seek.

We are determined to make our roads safer for all who use them and this is a brilliant way for residents to make great use of them which also helps galvanise communities

“We are determined to make our roads safer for all who use them and this is a brilliant way for residents to make great use of them which also helps galvanise communities,” said Cllr Wesley Harcourt, H&F Council’s Cabinet Member for Transport, Environment and Residents’ Services.

“This is our second official Play Street this year and we are delighted that more residents are taking the opportunity to let their children play safely without the fear of traffic and we would encourage more people to put their roads forward.”

The road closure approved by the council allows residents to stop traffic using their road for a few hours.

The previous events in Roxwell Road have proved hugely successful with many children turning out to frolic on bikes, scooters and skates while their parents chatted with one another and took the chance to get to know their neighbours better.

At the Roxwell Road event, bike mechanic Dr Bike turned up to perform helpful repairs on children’s bikes, while the youngsters made chalk drawings in the road, which easily washed away with water, once the fun was over.

The H&F Play Streets are facilitated through charity London Play, who can help residents with how to get started and advise on the process of applying for the traffic order.

The Galloway Road event will run from 2pm until 5pm, between Dunraven Road and Uxbridge Road.
