What businesses make Hammersmith & Fulham such a great place to live? Tell the council and you could win a fantastic prize!

Free motorcycle hire, a £50 voucher towards some stylish bespoke glasses and a healthy detox plan are among the prizes you could win for helping shine a light on the traders you love most.

Local residents, shoppers and workers can vote for their favourites in three categories: Best Fulham Business, Best Hammersmith Business and Best Shepherds Bush Business.

“Independent local businesses are not just the lifeblood of our local economy, they help define the borough’s identity,” said Cllr Andrew Jones, H&F Cabinet Member for Economic Development and Regeneration.

“Everyone has their favourite cafe, shop or other small business which the borough wouldn’t be the same without. These awards are your chance to reward your favourites and acknowledge the difference they make to you in your neighbourhood.”

Vote for your favourite business by 12 November 2015.

“People are proud to have good businesses near them,” said John Warr owner of Warr’s Harley Davidson in King’s Road, Fulham, who is offering a prize of free weekend hire of a latest model of one of the iconic bikes.

The owner of Europe’s oldest and biggest Harley Davidson dealer said the borough’s unique businesses are a big part of what makes people proud to live in H&F.

He added: “Last year we had our 90th anniversary and we had over 5,000 people turn up. A lot of these people were from the borough. People are proud of their area.”

Voters will be automatically entered into the prize draw.

Other prizes include a two day detox plan with healthy juices and shots of wheatgrass supplied by Funky Juice in Fulham Broadway Shopping Centre; a free eye test and £50 voucher towards a pair of bespoke glasses by Vision Optique in Hammersmith Road, Hammersmith; a £150 voucher for Cherry Red salon in Hadyn Park Road, Shepherds Bush; £75 to spend at Wholefoods; tickets to a show at Bush Hall in Uxbridge Road, Shepherds Bush; and a meal for two at Azou north African restuarant in King Street, Hammersmith.

For another way to win, traders can also enter themselves to be considered by a panel of judges. The judges will scour the entries to crown the best business in 12 categories which include best restaurant, best independent retailer and best customer service.

John added: “We’ll enter the competition as well. Businesses want to do it for a reason, to show people they’re shining examples in their field. It’s good for them and everybody in the borough. It’s good for their self-esteem and for customers to take notice. There’s nothing better than having a medal on your shelf, something to tell your customers about.”
