Silver Sunday is a festival of activities for senior citizens, who might not ordinarily get the chance to leave their homes, or meet new people.

The Mayor’s Tea Dance on 4 October is one of many free activities and events which are happening across the borough and surrounding areas and are open to anyone aged 65 or over and their carers.

“It is vital to ensure that older people feel part of the communities where they live. Often they live alone or rely on others, so this is a brilliant opportunity for our more senior residents to get out, enjoy themselves, make new friends and maybe even try an activity for the first time,” said Cllr Sue Fennimore, H&F Council’s Cabinet Member for Social Inclusion.

The events also provide opportunities for residents to find out more about the many community groups and council services that are available to them.

Tickets for the Mayor’s Tea Dance will be available on a first come, first served basis and are available by applying to: The Mayor’s Office, Room 201, Hammersmith Town Hall, King Street, Hammersmith, W6 9JU.

Alternatively apply via email to: mayor@lbhf.gov.uk, or call 020 8753 2013 or 2081.

Bishop Creighton House is hosting a fish and chips lunch on Tuesday 29 September from noon until 2.30pm. The event will include songs from school children and a talk on first aid delivered by the London Ambulance Service. The event takes place at Bishop Creighton House, 378 Lillie Road, SW6 7PH. Spaces are limited to 20 and booking is required. To reserve a space, call Donna Isaac on 0207 385 9689 or email: disaac@creightonhouse.org. This event is only open to residents of H&F.

The charity Age-Link is also hosting events around Silver Sunday. On Sunday 27 September, there will be a charity walk on Hampstead Heath in north-west London. For more details, call 01895 676689.
